The 9th of December:
For more than 7 years in the late 80's and early 90's today would have been a strike day. A day of popular protests to comomerate the 1987 Palestinian Intifada. This Intifada started of as an unorganised protest against the extent of disregard the Israeli Authorities had for Palestinian Blood. The protests started off on the evening of the 8th of December after an Israeli truck crashed into two taxis carrying Gazan workers killing 8 of them. in these same demonstrations, a Palestinian youth was shot when throwing stones, the next morning demonstrations and protest spread to the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. For the next 7 years or more, we had to go through daily demonstrations, curfews, bone breaking, shootings, tyres burning, waking up to soldiers on your balcony at 3 am and many more things of this sort.

In Gaza it was a bit different. There used to be a strike on the 6th and 9th of every month. I know what the 9th was about, but I can't really peg the 6th.
Anyways, this is my first comment really, but I really appreciate your blog and think it's represents a good insight into current events by looking deeper than the surface.

Actually, the Strike on the 6th was also observed in the West Bank. As far as my knowledge goes the Islamic Jihad used to date the intifada's start to the 6th to make it coincide with the stabbing of an Israeli Jew in Gaza, which, in the chain of events that followed seemed to be a cause for traffic accident that killed 8 gazans on the 8th (the incident which sparked all the protests on that evening in Jabalya and later the next day accross the West Bank).
